The World’s Biggest Airport Will Open in 2019

I’ve got to admit, when flying nowadays, depending on what airport I’m flying from and where I’m going to, I can get a tad excited.

Obviously the trip or holiday is the biggest thing, but when you’re at a great airport it just makes the holiday that little bit better, don’t you think?

Good duty free shops, great bars and restaurants, not to mention the awesome ones with movie theatres and spas – hello Singapore!

Well it’s been announced that the world’s biggest airport is set to open in 2019 and I can already imagine how spectacular it’s going to be.

According to Reuters the new record-breaking airport will be in Beijing, in the southern district of Daxing.

The architect who designed the new building was the late, great Zaha Hadid – and no guys, she’s no relation to Bella or Gigi before you start asking.

The 700,000 square-metre building will include civic gardens and will house separate areas for international and domestic flights to help reduce congestion – Beijing’s current airport is considered the second busiest in the world.

The new airport will have the capacity to house 100 million passengers a year.

A high-speed railway station is also under construction to help passengers get to the airport.

On Zaha Hadid’s Architecture website, it states:

The overall symmetry of the airport terminal design, together with its flowing, interconnected forms, create a fluid composition which evokes the harmony and balance evidence in Chinese landscapes, while its colours and materials are an expression of visual language within traditional Chinese culture.

To be ranked the best in the world though, it’s got some pretty tough competition.

Those regarded highly include:

Changi – the current Singapore airport – it has it’s own rooftop pool!

Incheon International – in South Korea – it has an array of shopping and dining options, in addition to a bevy of cultural performances.

Hong Kong – it has it’s own golf course!

Still, the all important question – have they got a Whetherspoons?

I’m not flying unless I can get a full English and some booze for less than a tenner!
