An Iranian teenager has reportedly undergone fifty different surgeries, in order to look like her idol, Angelina Jolie.
19-year-old Sahar Tabar, from Tehran, has gone viral for her new looks, after admitting she ‘would do anything’ to look just like Ms Jolie.
The 42-year-old Tomb Raider actress is considered a great beauty the world over and it’s not uncommon for young women to use public figures as inspiration for their own style.
Yet Tabar’s extreme transformation has received lots of negative feedback, with some cruel commentators saying the young women looks like a ‘zombie’.
According to Belgian website Sud Info, Tabar underwent 50 surgeries in the space of just a few months, with some pretty drastic results.
This is what she looked like pre-surgery:
The exact nature of the surgeries are unconfirmed, with some claiming they must be the result of make-up or prosthesis.
One selfie seems to show her mid-transformation:
The young women also reportedly underwent an extreme regime of dieting to maintain her 40kg weight – which would classify her as dangerously underweight in medical terms.
The Jolie superfan also uses contact lenses to adjust her natural eye colour, in order to be more befitting of Jolie’s blue eyes.
She’s also changed her hair colour a number of times, recent pictures show Tabar with purple, blonde and black hair.
Sahar has amassed 313,000 followers on Instagram at the time of writing.
Thus is the hideous nature of the world wide web, sadly, many observers have left unflattering comments on her pictures.
One person wrote:
Her: Doc make me look like an 8 month old corpse.
Doc: say no more.
The body-shaming nature of these comments is difficult to observe, especially when Tabar’s mission to look like Jolie has resulted in her classification as medically under-weight.
As a UNHCR ambassador and advocate for Women’s Rights, I’m sure Jolie herself would have a lot to say about the damaging nature of this abuse.
Many media outlets, including Vogue, People, and Vanity Fair, have cited her as the world’s most beautiful woman, while others such as Esquire, FHM, and Empire have named her the sexiest woman alive.
Perhaps Tabar’s story is evidence these titles are influencing young people’s self esteem, in a way which affects their perception of beauty, confidence and self-worth.
Many of the 19-year-old’s posts get over 10,000 likes, and her appearance has certainly garnered much attention.
She regularly posts selfies, seemingly undeterred by the abuse.
Let’s just hope she has the support she needs to ignore the trolls.
