We have written extensively on how to use coconut oil as a food for various health benefits but did you know it can also be used topically to help roll back a few years in appearance?
And for a quit tip to help naturally tighten your skin and combat wrinkles, try giving yourself a nice 5-minute face massage after all 3 meals each day. Or at the very least, once at night before you go to bed. Jessica Wu, dermatologist, and author of Feed Your Face highly recommends this practice.
Also, diet plays a major role in the appearance of your skin. Sugar, simple carbs (like white bread), and alcohol need to be consumed in very small amounts. Eat lots of foods that have omega 3’s like avocados and fish.
Healthy supple skin needs to start with washing your face. Why bother applying rejuvenating oils and lotions on some bacteria-thriving, funky skin? Keep in mind, over cleaning can be a whole new problem on your hands. In fact, you may even want to experiment with not washing your face first thing in the morning.
According to Arleen Lamba, M.D., founder of Blush Med Skincare in Bethesda, Maryland, “We sleep so that our bodies can recharge and repair our organs, including the skin. When we use harsh exfoliants and chemical cleansers, we scrub off the essential oils our skin has produced to maintain health.”
Here at Positively Wired, we are all about natural methods and beauty tips and the coconut oil technique we have prepared for you is one that has been tested and found to be effective for most skin types. Please note, not all types of skin will respond favorably, but there’s no harm in trying this mixture for a few days to see.
Use the recipe below as a facial cleanser, not a lotion or a mask that stays on your face.
Coconut Oil and Baking Soda Facial Cleanser Recipe
1/2 cup organic coconut oil (we recommend this)
1/2 cup baking soda
Warm the coconut oil in a pan (not the microwave) until it is in liquid form so that you can mix it well with the baking soda. The idea here is to create a paste that you can apply to your face. Massage some into your face, wash, and repeat for a total of 3 times.
