How can you avoid this kind of modus when you are searching for a job?

Well, the most important thing to keep in mind is that you have to check first if the company is legit and if it’s operating legally. Ask the name of the company, the name of the person that you are speaking to, the exact address, the land line phone number. From that basic information, you can search the web or Facebook for the company name and see if the number that was provided to you is correct. You should also call the number and ask them about the job post that you saw.
