Grime artist Stormzy has responded after a newspaper mistook him for Manchester United’s newest signing, Romelu Lukaku.
And he isn’t laughing.
His response has come after the Irish Herald printed a picture of him wearing a Man U kit with the headline ‘Lukaku is ready for work’.
Of course, their mistake was quickly picked up on and it spread across social media like an awkward wildfire.
Lukaku is due to complete his £75m move to Manchester United from Everton after passing a medical.
Photos of Lukaku, who is expected to complete his move to Man U, in club’s official kit haven’t yet been released, so the newspaper in Ireland decided to use an old picture of him. Only it wasn’t him, it was Stormzy.
Stormzy has taken to Twitter to tell his fans he hasn’t seen the funny side, writing: “I don’t find none of this funny btw. Don’t wanna sound like the party pooper who missed the joke..”
The Irish Herald has been forced to apologise, with editor Alan Steenson, writing:
Earlier, we made an error with a picture of Romelu Lukaku that wasn’t him. It was Stormzy.
To be honest, we are totally embarrassed and want to say sorry to all involved and our readers for the error. We will keep our eye on the ball in future.
The journalist responsible for the article had to defend himself on Twitter also, stating that he had ‘no involvement’ in the picture selection.
Stormzy has spoken of the similarities before.
In an episode of Channel 4’s Sunday Brunch, he said he thinks he does see a resemblance between him and the footballer.
