Local media said a Seafrontier tanker, carrying 38,000 tonnes of oil, collided with the Huayan Endeavor, which was on its way from the Netherlands to Colombia , according to online tracking data.
Both ships are Hong King-flagged and were reportedly carrying around 50 crew members at the time.
The collision happed overnight around 20 miles from Dunkirk, on the English side of the channel, La Voix du Nord reported, saying damage was “relatively limited”.
No injuries were immediately reported, and there was no information on a possible oil spill or environmental damage.
The Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Dover has sent two patrol boats and two helicopters to the scene, while French investigators are also on their way.
The Seafrontier tanke is expected to sail to a Belgian or Dutch port to make repairs, while the Huayan Endeavor could dock in the UK.
